Business And Administration Level 3

Who is the course for?

This course is suited to those who work in roles such as administration executives/officers, administrator team leaders, personal assistants and secretaries, including legal or medical secretaries.  

Administration skills are crucial to the effectiveness and efficiency of any organisation, and this qualifications demonstrate a thorough understanding of current theory and practice, which is respected and recognised by practitioners and employers alike.

This qualification includes mandatory and optional units. Mandatory units include:

  • Communicate in a business environment
  • Manage personal and professional development
  • Principles of business communication and information
  • Principles of administration
  • Principles of business

Tasks will vary depending on the level and sector in which the learner is employed. Tasks may include:

  • Producing documents and preparing notes
  • Organising and co-ordinating events and meetings
  • Developing and delivering presentations
  • Providing reception services
  • Using office equipment and a variety of software packages 
  • Overseeing operational activities
  • Managing teams
  • Agreeing budgets

  • Real work place experience
  • Earn whilst you learn
  • Industry specific Assessor/Tutor support
  • Flexibility in attendance, e.g. choose to attend College one day per week or learn remotely
  • A tutorial programme covering subjects linked to the work environment such as email etiquette, professional letter writing, time management and personal guidance on equality and diversity, safeguarding and money matters

In order to carry out this Apprenticeship learners must be working in an administrative environment with real autonomy/responsibility within their job role. The Advanced Apprenticeship will last between 18 – 24 months depending on your motivation to complete.

Placements can be secured in any organisation where administration takes place.

During a College interview, the Training Officer will discuss how best to obtain a position.  There may be organisations that the College is working with who are looking for an apprentice, or learners may prefer to approach an organisation of their choice.  Usually, an Advanced Apprenticeship is a progression route from an Intermediate Apprenticeship or follows experience within a job role.

  • An initial assessment will need to take place in order to decide on the appropriate level for the learners ability, however if they have GCSE grade A – C in English and Maths this will not be necessary.
  • An assessment of the job role will need to take place in order to ensure there is enough scope and responsibility for the learner to be able to achieve the Diploma as it is based on levels of competence.

The Diploma is assessed in the workplace by a competent Assessor who has specific sector knowledge. An on-line portfolio will be built using various assessment methods, e.g. observation, professional discussion, work product, witness testimony, etc.

The knowledge element of the Diploma will be assessed via on-line tests after each learning outcome has been taught and the learner feels ready to sit a multi-choice exam on each subject.

Functional Skills (English, Maths and ICT) will be achieved by studying the content of the syllabus and passing on-line exams.

The Apprenticeship will take between 18 – 24 months to achieve depending on your commitment and ability to collect evidence.

One day per week (Wednesday), or remotely using BlackBoard, (Virtual Learning Environment).

Progression to team leading/management, customer service or other sector specific qualifications.

The majority of apprentices can expect to be offered a permanent contract with their employer with endless progression opportunities going forward.  Previous destinations include:
